PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: ONE OUT OF EIGHT COMPANIES ARE PROMPT IN PAYMENTS

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

According to a recent analysis conducted by CRIBIS D&B only 13% of Italian companies in the Public Administration sector are able to settle debts with suppliers within the established deadlines: one out of eight companies in the PA sector, as such, abides to the established payment terms, with a 22,1 percentage point gap compared to the Italian average.

On the other hand, 29,6% of companies pay with more than a 30-day delay, far from the national average of 13,8%. If we compare today’s data, up to the end of march 2016, with 2010 data; what emerges even more prominently is the difficulties the PAs are facing: If, on the one hand, prompt payments have increased by 1,5 percentage points, on the other hand serious delays have increased as well, shifting from 20% in 2010 to the current 28,6%. Within this scenario, we can however see improvements within the Sanitary and Healthcare sector, which have lost almost 10 percentage points since 2010 in serious delays.

Considering the payment habits related to the geographical macro area, the North-East has registered good performances: 15,2% correspond to prompt payments, 15,4% amount, instead, to serious delays, while 69,4% abide to payment terms within the month of the stipulated date. Moreover, prompt payments of Territorial Entities of the North-East have improved during the last few years, shifting from 11% in 2010 to 15,3% at the end of march 2016.

Slightly inferior performance within the Public Administration sector in the North-West, with a higher prompt payment percentage (15,9%), but also a higher serious delay percentage corresponding to 22,6%. In contrast, it is possible to remark that the South and Islands are the most critical areas: 8,5% correspond to prompt payments, whereas 54,7% correspond to serious delays.
