Public Administration: only one in four companies pay on time
Friday, November 25, 2016It has emerged from the CRIBIS D&B Payment Study that only 22.3% of Italian Public Administration companies pay on time: more than 13 percentage points lower than the average for Italian companies of 35.9%.
That means that just one in four PA companies respect established terms, while for serious late payments, one of the main indicators of the state of health of a company, 25.3% pay more than one month late compared to the country-wide average of 12.6%.
Compared to 2010, the number of good payers has grown (up 10.8 percentage points) but the serious late payments have also increased (from 20.0% in 2010 to the current 25.3%). Within this context, the most shocking data show that in the health care and local health authority sector, virtually no payments are made by the due date: 39.0% pay within a month after the due date while the remaining 61% of health care companies generally pay more than 30 days late.
On a regional level, the best payers are in the northwest: 26.4% pay by the due date, while 20.2% pay more than one month beyond agreed terms. Performance is slightly lower for Public Administration in the northeast which is less punctual (22.4%) but also with less serious late payers (16.3%). The situation is diametrically opposite for the south and the islands, where serious late payments account for 41.0% of the total.
