Thursday, July 13, 2017

CRIBIS Study Payment released its latest report about payment habits in Italy, the results show a clear improvement of companies’ payment performances in the second quarter of 2017 as they have become more efficient and careful in managing their credit. Looking at the figures, the comparison between this year and the prior show that punctuality increased by 2.8%, while serious late payments went down significantly (-16%). This is good news for the Italian industrial sector as it represents a gradual recovery after financial crisis hit the market.

If we look at companies’ size, micro enterprises are the best performers in the country having the largest share of punctual payers (37.5%); on the other hand, they also reached 12.0% in serious late payments. Big companies have a small portion of punctual payments but, at the same time, they usually keep late payments under 30 days past due.

Financial services are the healthiest among different sectors of the economy with punctual payments close to 50%, while retailers are in difficulty with only 25.7% of the companies paying on time.

On the regional level, North East and West are the most virtuous among the macro areas of Italy with 45.0% and 41.5% respectively: Veneto and Emilia-Romagna are the best performers. The South and the Islands show major difficulties with a share of 23.6% punctual payers.
